A study to assess the effectiveness of video teaching programme on knowledge and attitude of labour care guide (LCG) among midwives in selected UCHC AT Chennai

The WHO Labour Care Guide (LCG) is a tool developed by the World Health Organisation to promote respect, evidence-based, and high-quality care during childbirth. The Purpose of this study to determine the effectiveness of the video teaching programme on the knowledge and attitude of labour care guides (LCG) and its usage among midwives. A quasi-experimental pretest-post-test design was used to conduct the study. A total of 40 samples was recruited by utilising a simple random sampling technique 20 were experimental and 20 belongs control group. The pretest data was collected using a self- structured knowledge questionnaire (15 items) and a 5-point Likert scale for attitude (5 items) to assess the knowledge and attitude on LCG among both groups. After that video presentation on LCG which comprises of identifying information and labour characteristics at admission, Supportive care, care of the baby, care of the women, labour progress, Medication and Shared decision making was taken for1 hour and the post-test was conducted with the same tool for both the groups on the same day. The study findings showed that the pre-test and post-test mean scores of the control group were 14.95 and 15.10, respectively, with a mean difference of 0.15. The paired t-test value of 1.371 was not statistically significant at the p< 0.05 level in the control group. In contrast, the pre-test and post-test mean scores of the experimental group were 15.45 and 22.30, respectively, with a mean difference of 6.85. The calculated paired t-test value of 11.777 was statistically significant at the p< 0.05 level, indicating that midwives gained significantly more knowledge after the intervention in the post-test
