Impact of simulation-based education on the development of clinical skills in childbirth management
Lt Col Siny S
Simulation-based education provides a safe, controlled, and realistic learning environment for practising essential skills in childbirth management. This study evaluates the effectiveness of childbirth simulator-based training in enhancing the knowledge and clinical competencies of healthcare providers working in maternity settings. A quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test design was adopted. Knowledge was assessed using a structured questionnaire, while clinical skills were evaluated using an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) checklist. Participants underwent structured simulation training using a childbirth simulator. Findings showed a significant improvement in both knowledge and skill scores after the training, indicating strong effectiveness of simulation-based learning. Simulation is therefore recommended as a core strategy to strengthen competency, confidence, and preparedness in childbirth management.
